Taliban Consul Meets with Khorasan Razavi Prosecutor to Discuss Afghan Prisoners’ Legal Status

Nur Mohammad Mutawakkil, the Taliban administration’s Consul General in Mashhad, met with Hassan Hematifar, the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor of Khorasan Razavi province in Iran, to discuss the legal status of Afghan prisoners.
According to a statement released by the Afghan Consulate in Mashhad, both parties emphasized expanding constructive interactions to raise awareness and prevent crimes. During the meeting, the mechanisms for providing legal support to Afghan detainees were also reviewed.
Furthermore, facilitating and accelerating the transfer process of Afghan convicts to continue serving their sentences in Afghanistan was another key topic discussed. In recent years, this issue has become one of the main demands of the families of several Afghan prisoners in Iran.
Currently, a significant number of Afghan citizens are held in Iranian prisons, and addressing their legal affairs and transfer has consistently been a part of consular discussions between the two sides.
