Federal Judge Strikes Down Part of Trump’s Immigration Policies

A federal judge in the United States has ruled that part of the immigration policies of President Donald Trump’s administration is illegal and must be revoked. According to this ruling, applicants from 39 countries had been denied decisions regarding asylum requests, work permits, green cards, and citizenship.

According to Reuters, John McConnell, Chief Judge of the United States District Court in Providence, Rhode Island, declared the policies null and void. He stated that the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ enforcement of these regulations placed citizens from dozens of countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East in a state of “indefinite legal limbo.”

The judge emphasized that those affected by these policies had complied with all procedures established by Congress and the official regulations of the Citizenship and Immigration Services. However, they remained waiting for months without final decisions on their cases, as the agency refused to issue determinations on their applications.

This ruling could impact the processing of pending cases and compel the immigration agency to make decisions on applicants’ requests.
