Taliban Leadership Orders Investigation into Officials’ Assets in Badakhshan

The leader of the Taliban administration has issued a directive appointing a high-level committee to investigate the assets and properties of the group’s commanders and local officials in Badakhshan province. In a document issued by the Taliban administrative office, a copy of which was obtained by the media, immediate implementation of this order has been emphasized.

The document states that anyone who disobeys this directive must be arrested immediately. This warning indicates that the Taliban leadership is seeking to exert stricter control over its local figures in this province.

This directive comes amid rising tensions and protests in recent weeks over mining operations in Badakhshan. Residents of some areas have expressed dissatisfaction with the management and exploitation of mineral resources.

Local sources in Badakhshan have also confirmed that a process resembling an intra-group purge has effectively begun among Taliban members. Experts believe that examining the assets of local officials could be part of the leadership’s effort to curb internal disputes and control economic resources in the province; a move that once again highlights the lack of transparency and accountability within the Taliban administration.
