Over Four Million Afghan Refugees in Iran Urgently Need Humanitarian Aid, Says Norwegian Refugee Council Chief

The head of the Norwegian Refugee Council has announced that more than four million Afghans residing in Iran urgently require increased humanitarian assistance and support. Referring to the current situation, he stated that many of these families are facing difficult economic conditions.
Jan Egeland, in a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page, wrote that Afghan and Iranian children have suffered psychological and emotional trauma due to heavy bombings in various parts of Iran. According to him, this situation has put additional pressure on families already struggling with livelihood challenges.
The Norwegian Refugee Council chief emphasized that this large population of Afghan migrants is in urgent need of broader and immediate support. He warned that reductions in funding and restrictions on humanitarian aid could further complicate the plight of these families.
According to Egeland, many parents have told him that amid the economic crisis caused by the war, they have lost even their meager incomes. This has severely diminished their ability to meet basic living needs, especially for their children.
