Taliban Minister Assures Afghanistan Will Not Be Used Against Iran

Mawlavi Mohammadiyaqub Mujahid, the Taliban’s acting Defense Minister, told Ali Bagheri, Iran’s Deputy for Foreign Policy and International Security, that Afghanistan’s land, airspace, and borders will not and have never been used as a source of threat against Iran. According to IRNA news agency, this meeting took place on the sidelines of the 14th International Meeting of Senior Security Officials in Moscow.

Mujahid emphasized that Afghanistan demonstrated this commitment even during the recent conflict. He also called for the development of relations between Kabul and Tehran and the expansion of delegation exchanges between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Ali Bagheri stated that regional countries must make their own decisions regarding their security and fate. Quoting IRNA, he described the United States and the Israeli regime as common enemies of the region and expressed hope that enhanced regional consultations would pave the way for independent decision-making free from third-party interference.

The Iranian deputy secretary also stressed the importance of expanding ideological, political, economic, and infrastructural cooperation between the two countries, viewing it as essential for securing sustainable regional stability and security.

This comes as the Taliban administration has repeatedly pledged not to allow Afghanistan’s territory to be used against neighboring countries. However, security incidents along the borders and concerns raised by regional states have continually highlighted the need for effective monitoring and enforceable guarantees to uphold these commitments.
