Fawzia Kufi Reports Taliban Seizure of Home and Arrest of Family Members
Fawzia Kufi, a former representative of Badakhshan in the previous government’s parliament, has announced that the Taliban administration seized her personal home three months ago and recently arrested several members of her family. According to her, these individuals remain unaware of their legal and health status.
On Saturday, May 2nd, Kufi released a statement saying that after her home was taken over, her family members and associates were forced to leave the premises. However, last week, Taliban forces raided them again and arrested several of her relatives.
She added that during this operation, a number of residents of Badakhshan province were also detained; individuals who, according to her, have no familial or personal ties to her. Kufi did not provide details about the exact number or identities of those arrested.
The statement said the families of the detained are unaware of the detainees’ fate, health conditions, or the circumstances of their detention, which has raised serious concerns. It also mentioned that at least two of those arrested had been struggling with health problems prior to their detention.
The former parliament member described the Taliban administration’s actions as “cowardly” and emphasized that despite the pressures, she will continue her activities and public stance. The arrest of family members and unrelated individuals connected to critics occurs amid repeated human rights warnings that such actions constitute collective punishment and intimidation.
The Taliban administration has yet to respond to this issue. This event comes shortly after Shahabuddin Delawar, a senior member of the Taliban’s “Invitation Commission,” urged Fawzia Kufi to return to Afghanistan.
