Taliban Authorities Respond to 2026 Global Terrorism Index Reporting 95% Decline in Insecurity in Afghanistan

The spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior reacted to the “2026 Global Terrorism Index” report, which indicated a 95% reduction in insecurity in Afghanistan, stating that the administration has repeatedly emphasized ensuring nationwide security and considers the country to be on the path toward “strengthening stability and sustainable security.” Abdul Mateen Qani added that the Taliban administration sees itself committed to maintaining lasting stability and security in Afghanistan and will strive to consolidate what it terms an “security achievement.” The 2026 Global Terrorism Index had earlier reported that Afghanistan ranks eleventh among countries experiencing security incidents, a position that reflects a two-place improvement compared to the previous report. In the same report, Pakistan was listed at the top as the country with the highest number of security incidents. Despite the Taliban administration’s emphasis on improved security conditions, independent organizations and citizens in some areas continue to report limited access to information and a lack of transparent internal assessments, an issue that challenges accurate measurement of the security situation.
