Taliban Education Minister Stresses the Importance of Modern Sciences

Habibullah Agha, the Taliban’s Minister of Education, announced on Sunday during a visit to Bamyan province that teaching modern sciences is a serious, current necessity, and without it, the country cannot be effectively defended.

In his speech, he emphasized that the present era is different from the past and that the country can no longer be protected with ordinary equipment and weapons. Instead, advanced weapons based on knowledge and modern technology must be developed.

These remarks come while Afghanistan’s education system has faced extensive restrictions in recent years, especially concerning girls’ education and certain specialized fields. Education experts have consistently stressed that genuine development of modern sciences requires equal access, an open educational environment, and sustained investment across all segments of society.

Experts believe that unless the emphasis on contemporary sciences is translated into practical and comprehensive educational policies, these statements will not meet the country’s technical and defense needs regionally and globally.
