Barakzai Calls Ankara Conference on Afghanistan’s Future Inspiring

Shukria Barakzai, former member of Afghanistan’s Wolesi Jirga, described the academic conference held by the research and policy center “Lajward Yuly” in Ankara as a valuable and inspiring experience. She said the program provided a platform for deep discussions on geopolitical challenges and the future of Afghanistan.

According to her, the conference was based on academic analyses, presenting specialized papers and research, and created an open dialogue environment among researchers. Barakzai emphasized that the program focused on knowledge production and exchange of views, steering clear of political approaches and agendas.

The former parliamentarian also praised the efforts of young researchers, especially girls and boys who strive to pursue higher education and doctoral studies despite existing restrictions. While the Taliban administration has imposed extensive limitations on education, particularly for girls, in recent years, many young Afghans are endeavoring to continue their education and research either inside or outside the country.

Barakzai expressed hope that such academic initiatives can contribute to intellectual growth, strengthen constructive dialogue, and seek sustainable solutions for Afghanistan’s future. She also thanked the organizers and professors of the program, including Dr. Setiz and Tarashtwal, calling the conference an important step towards enhancing scientific dialogue among Afghans.
