Taliban Foreign Minister Denies Presence of Opposition Centers Across Afghanistan

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, has claimed that there are no opposition movements or attacks against the group anywhere in Afghanistan. He stated that not even a single attack has occurred on their security outposts and that there is no active opposition center in any province or district.

On Saturday, April 25, the Taliban’s Foreign Ministry released a video of Muttaqi’s speech in which he emphasized, “You see that not even in one province or district is there a center for the opposition, and no attack has been carried out on Taliban command.”

These remarks come amid independent sources providing differing reports about the extent of the Taliban’s security control across the country.

In contrast, anti-Taliban fronts such as the “Resistance Front” and the “National Front of Afghanistan” occasionally claim responsibility for attacks against Taliban forces in certain provinces. These claims suggest that the Taliban’s official narrative denying any armed opposition does not fully align with reports released by opposition groups.

The senior Taliban official made these assertions at a time when the group has yet to gain domestic or international legitimacy. Widespread restrictions on girls’ education, women’s employment, and other fundamental citizen rights continue to provoke negative reactions both inside and outside Afghanistan, with many residents criticizing the administration’s policies.
