Taliban Representative Meets Italian Ambassador in Doha to Discuss Bilateral Relations and Afghanistan’s Current Situation

Mohammad Sohail Shaheen, the Taliban administration’s representative in Doha, met with Sabrina Ognolini, Italy’s ambassador for Afghanistan, to discuss bilateral relations and the current situation in Afghanistan.
The Afghan Embassy in Qatar, which operates under Taliban control, posted on its X page that the meeting covered topics including the current political situation, economic and health challenges, consular services for Afghan citizens residing in Qatar, and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
According to the statement, both sides also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. However, no further details about the practical outcomes of these talks have been released.
This meeting takes place while the Taliban administration remains unrecognized by many countries, with diplomatic interactions mainly focused on humanitarian assistance and addressing the situation of Afghan citizens abroad. Many observers emphasize that improving Afghanistan’s foreign relations depends on tangible changes in domestic policies and respect for citizens’ fundamental rights.
