Construction Begins on $10 Million Terminal at Kandahar International Airport

Construction of a new terminal and vehicle parking lot at Ahmad Shah Baba International Airport in Kandahar province has commenced, with a budget exceeding 800 million Afghanis. The project was inaugurated by Taliban officials and is planned to be executed in two phases.

The Taliban’s Department of Transport and Aviation has announced that the terminal will be built with modern design and necessary equipment, providing all essential facilities for passengers. Officials stated that the terminal is expected to handle approximately three thousand passengers daily.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the ministry’s deputy operations officer and several local Kandahar authorities. According to provided information, the construction of the terminal and parking area will be completed and operational within two and a half years.

Ahmad Shah Baba Airport is considered a key transit hub in southern Afghanistan, and its expansion could positively impact both domestic and international travel. However, experts consistently emphasize the importance of transparency in the use of public funds and effective oversight of infrastructure projects—issues that currently demand clear accountability from the Taliban administration.
