Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Say Four Oil Tankers Hit in Northern Persian Gulf

The public relations office of the naval force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards has said four non-compliant vessels transporting oil were simultaneously hit in the northern Persian Gulf. According to the force, the vessels were transferring oil ship to ship and caught fire after being struck.
In addition, three other non-compliant vessels were damaged and set ablaze last night west of the Strait of Hormuz after hitting naval mines, bringing them to a halt. In a statement, the Revolutionary Guards said the operation followed the pursuit and identification of vessels that had taken illegal routes.
The statement also said the United States had increased maritime incidents by planting mines in these routes, and that the situation could lead to wider clashes in the region. The Guards’ naval force warned that these actions by the United States would draw confrontation to the invading military bases in the region.
The developments come as the Strait of Hormuz holds major strategic importance, and the Revolutionary Guards have claimed their control of it continues on an ongoing basis.
