Taliban Official Says US Bombs Have Caused Disease Outbreaks in Afghanistan

Noorulhaq Anwar, head of the Taliban regime’s administrative affairs department, claimed at a meeting in Kabul that the use of bombs and landmines by foreign forces, including the large bomb known as the ‘Mother of Bombs,’ has been the main cause of the spread of some diseases in Afghanistan, especially stomach problems.
He said these bombs had caused a humanitarian disaster and had prevented Afghanistan from returning to normal even years after the end of the foreign presence. Anwar stressed that the use of such weapons had not only killed and disabled people, but had also imposed long-term health consequences on the country.
The reference to ‘foreigners’ in the Taliban official’s remarks was to US and NATO forces under Afghanistan’s former government, which he said had used these bombs in their operations. The United States used the so-called ‘Mother of Bombs’ in previous years to target the ISIS branch in Nangarhar province.
These remarks, while pointing to the negative military and humanitarian consequences of the foreign forces’ presence, reflect the طالبان’s view of the destructive impact of military operations on the health and overall conditions of the Afghan people.
