Pakistan parliament approves governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Pakistan’s parliament has approved governor’s rule and a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, paving the way for federal intervention in the province’s administration, a move that has drawn strong اعتراضs from opposition lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
Pakistan’s federal government said the measure was prompted by the provincial administration’s inability to contain armed attacks and ensure security. Opponents, however, say removing the elected provincial government will deepen the country’s political crisis.
Makhdoom Mahmood Khan Achakzai, an opposition leader, called the decision illegal and warned that continuing such actions could spread political tensions to other provinces, including Balochistan and Punjab.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also called for an end to the state of emergency and the resumption of talks with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party. Pakistan’s federal government, meanwhile, insists that imposing the emergency was necessary to counter security threats.
