UNDP to build flood protection infrastructure in Baghlan

The United Nations Development Programme office in Afghanistan has said it will build protective infrastructure to reduce flood risk and protect homes, farmland and livelihoods in Baghlan province.

The measure is being carried out after the devastating floods of 2024 in the province through the PAIDAAR project. The cost of implementing the project is being funded by the Afghanistan Special Trust Fund.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Oct. 13, UNDP said preparedness for natural disasters and the construction of protective facilities can reduce communities’ vulnerability to future events.

The agency made the remarks to coincide with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, a day focused on raising public awareness, preparedness and reducing the impact of natural events.
