Zardari warns Taliban authorities over action against armed groups

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has warned the Taliban authorities that Islamabad has the capacity to act against armed groups and their supporters, in a warning issued amid rising security tensions between the two sides.

Zardari has urged the Taliban authorities to review their policies, saying Pakistan’s patience and restraint should not be interpreted as weakness.

Islamabad accuses the Taliban authorities of allowing anti-Pakistan armed groups, especially Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, to use Afghan territory to plan and carry out attacks. These accusations are seen as one of the main reasons for the deterioration in relations between Pakistan and the Taliban authorities.

The Taliban authorities have rejected the accusations, saying they do not allow Afghan territory to be used against other countries. They have also stressed that disputes with Pakistan should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

Despite the positions taken by both sides, the dispute over border security and the activity of armed groups remains unresolved, leaving relations between Islamabad and the Taliban authorities under strain.
