Pakistan denies its fighter jets took part in Yemen strikes

Pakistan’s Ministry of Information has rejected claims that its fighter jets were involved in strikes on targets in Yemen.

According to Al Mayadeen, the ministry said reports claiming Islamabad had taken part militarily in air operations against positions held by Yemen’s armed forces were not true.

The denial comes after The New York Times previously quoted a senior Pakistani military official as saying the country had secretly joined the war led by Saudi Arabia against the Ansarallah movement in Yemen. According to the same official, Pakistani fighter jets had played a role in air strikes on positions held by Yemen’s armed forces as part of military cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s foreign minister had previously said his country would not send forces to attack other countries under the ‘Mecca Agreement’, describing the pact as defensive in nature.
