Taliban Governor in Panjshir Calls for Pushback Against ‘Western Concepts’

Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim, the Taliban-appointed governor of Panjshir, stressed the need to confront what he called “Western concepts” during a meeting with a number of clerics in the province, and urged families not to let their children be influenced by outside propaganda.
According to him, “Western concepts” entered the country over the past 20 years and left “negative effects.” The Taliban governor described this as one of the cultural and social challenges.
Hakim also said religious scholars have a duty to introduce the younger generation to Islamic values through sermons. He described the role of preachers and clerics in shaping young people’s thinking as “key.”
Panjshir is one of Afghanistan’s central-northeastern provinces, with Bazarak as its capital, and most of its residents are Persian speakers. In recent years, following the change in Afghanistan’s system of governance, education, the media and the cultural sphere have been among the main issues of discussion and disagreement in the country.
