Taliban authorities in Farah say 111 drug users treated and returned to families

Taliban authorities in Afghanistan’s western Farah province say 111 people gathered by the counter-narcotics unit of the provincial police command have been handed back to their families after completing treatment.

According to the authorities, the individuals were taken to a special 500-bed treatment centre for drug users in the provincial capital, where they received care before being discharged.

The Taliban authorities did not provide further details on how these people were collected, how long their treatment lasted, or the extent to which families had voluntary access to treatment services.

Drug addiction remains a serious social problem in several Afghan provinces, including Farah, and families have repeatedly called for more reliable access to treatment services and reintegration programmes for those affected.
