Atwan Calls Full US Withdrawal From Iraq a Victory for Resistance

Arab affairs analyst Abdul Bari Atwan has described the complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq as a defeat for the United States and a victory for the country’s resistance. He made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X, which was published by the electronic newspaper Rai Al-Youm.
The US Department of War said on Wednesday, Sept. 30, that American troops had fully withdrawn from Iraq. US President Donald Trump also said the pullout should have happened much earlier.
In his post, Atwan wrote that Iraq’s resistance had emerged from the first day of the occupation, with the participation of Shiites and Sunnis and with weapons support from Bashar al-Assad’s government. It also received backing from Hezbollah and the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
He also referred to Saddam Hussein’s five messages several days after the start of the occupation of Iraq, and asked how Israel was trying to involve the United States in issues related to Iran by using its “usual pretexts.” Atwan described these remarks as a “testimony for history.”
