North Korea Calls U.S. Approval of South Korean Nuclear Submarine Dangerous

North Korea’s foreign ministry has described U.S. approval for South Korea to build a nuclear-powered submarine as a dangerous move, saying the decision could add to political and military instability in the Asia-Pacific region.

The ministry also claimed that Washington’s approval is another sign of the United States expanding nuclear technology through the AUKUS agreement. According to the ministry, the United States is pursuing a policy that leads to extreme nuclear militarisation and the collapse of the international nuclear order.

South Korea plans to introduce the submarine in the mid-2030s as part of its efforts to counter North Korea. The two countries reached agreement on building the submarine under a trade deal signed between them last year.
