Taliban Administration Says Talks Held With Uzbekistan to Ease Trade
The Taliban administration said a delegation from Afghanistan’s National Standards and Quality Authority met with officials from Uzbekistan’s Technical Regulation Agency in the city of Termez to discuss technical cooperation and ways to facilitate trade.
According to the administration, the talks focused on removing technical barriers to trade, aligning national standards with international benchmarks, expanding laboratories and finalising a technical cooperation agreement.
The Taliban administration did not provide details on when the agreement would be signed or how it would be implemented. It also remains unclear what practical and immediate impact the talks will have on Afghanistan’s trade process.
According to the statement, the Uzbek side also expressed readiness to train Afghan specialists in technical regulation and metrology.
Termez is one of Uzbekistan’s important border cities next to Afghanistan, and in recent years part of the trade and technical contacts between the two sides has taken place in this city.
