Afghanistan signs 25-year contract to build football ground in Kunduz

The Afghanistan Football Federation has announced that a contract to build a football ground in the centre of Kunduz province has been signed for a period of 25 years, and the project is to be implemented with FIFA funding.

According to the federation, 10 jeribs of land belonging to the country’s sports department in central Kunduz have been handed over to the Afghanistan Football Federation under the contract so that construction of the ground can take place there.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Afghanistan Football Federation said the project is part of the organisation’s development plans to strengthen football infrastructure in the country. The federation added that the aim of the project is to create better opportunities for the growth of football talent in Kunduz.

According to the statement, the contract was signed between Mawlawi Ahmadullah Waqas, head of Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Olympic, Physical Education and Sports, and Mohammadyousuf Kargar, head of the Afghanistan Football Federation.

The federation said the actual construction work on the ground is scheduled to begin in 2027. Kunduz is one of Afghanistan’s north-eastern provinces, and its centre is the city of Kunduz.
