Taliban Says 28 Killed, 32 Arrested in Clash in Kamdish
The Taliban administration said 28 people were killed and 32 others were arrested following a clash in Kamdish district of Nuristan province, an incident it blamed on an attempt by Pakistan to spread insecurity.
In a statement, the Taliban-run Ministry of Defence said several groups had been sent from across the Durand Line toward Kamdish district and that its forces engaged them after launching an operation. According to the ministry, some of the individuals retreated back across the Durand Line after the clash.
The Taliban claimed the groups had entered Afghan territory with the support of “Pakistani militias” and in coordination with people affiliated with Islamic State. The administration also alleged that some of those involved were former government soldiers who, after being taken to Pakistan, received short-term military training and were then sent to Nuristan.
In its statement, the Taliban Ministry of Defence accused Pakistan of fuelling insecurity in Afghanistan and called on regional countries to closely monitor the Pakistani military’s activities. The ministry did not release independently verifiable details about the identities of those killed and arrested.
The Taliban also urged young people and former soldiers, who it said had been lured by false promises, to contact security forces and surrender. Kamdish district in Nuristan province lies near the Durand Line and is among the remote and rugged border areas of eastern Afghanistan.
