India Stresses Need to Continue Humanitarian Assistance for Afghanistan
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has said that Vikram Misri, the ministry’s deputy, stressed the need to continue addressing the humanitarian needs of the people of Afghanistan in a meeting with Roza Otunbayeva, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said in a post on the social media platform X that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to him, Misri also expressed appreciation for UNAMA’s role during the meeting and emphasised the continuation of India’s cooperation with the United Nations in connection with Afghanistan.
The meeting came as Afghanistan continues to face widespread humanitarian and economic difficulties, and international organisations have repeatedly reported the broad needs of the population in relief and basic support sectors.
UNAMA, or the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, is the main UN body for following political, humanitarian and aid-related developments in Afghanistan.
