WFP says hunger is hindering progress and stability in Afghanistan

The World Food Programme has said that hunger is one of the main obstacles to progress in Afghanistan and that its continued presence could undermine health, education, livelihoods and economic growth.
The agency wrote on X on Tuesday, 22 September, that no country can achieve progress while its people are hungry. It also stressed that access to sufficient food is a fundamental need for building a stable and prosperous society.
According to the agency, it must be ensured that everyone, especially needy families, has access to the food they require. At the same time, it emphasised the importance of continuing food and humanitarian assistance.
The latest emphasis from the World Food Programme comes as a number of families in Afghanistan are dependent on humanitarian aid to meet their basic food needs. The WFP is one of the major relief agencies in Afghanistan, working in food assistance and support for vulnerable families.
