Ahmad Massoud Appoints Saleh Mohammad Rigestani as Resistance Front Operations Commander

Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has appointed Saleh Mohammad Rigestani as the general operational commander of the front’s military headquarters.

The appointment was announced after Rigestani recently appeared in a video message saying he was present in the Hindu Kush mountains.

The appointment order was issued today, Tuesday, 31 Sempala. It calls on all officials, commanders and members of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan to cooperate and coordinate with him.

Saleh Mohammad Rigestani, a former parliament member, had left Afghanistan after the collapse of the republic and the return of the Taliban to power. In a video message yesterday, he said he had returned to Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush.

In the message, Rigestani said he had returned to the country after a “pause” and believes armed resistance is one of the effective ways to “liberate Afghanistan” from Taliban rule. The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan is one of the anti-Taliban movements that mainly operates in opposition to the administration’s rule.
