National Resistance Front commander says he has returned to Afghanistan
Saleh Mohammad Registani, a senior commander of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has said he has returned to Afghanistan after a long absence and has again taken up position in the Hindu Kush. In a video released on Monday, he spoke about the continued activities of the front and the formation of other fronts in different parts of the country against the Taliban administration.
Registani appeared in the video in military uniform and also mentioned the date “29 Sunbula 1405” on the Afghan calendar. He described the Hindu Kush as a “symbol of authority and pride” and said the activities of the National Resistance Front had not stopped since the Taliban administration took control.
According to him, arrests, restrictions and security developments have continued in Afghanistan over the past five years, while at the same time various fronts have become active across the country. Registani stressed that the National Resistance Front considers armed struggle one of the ways to pursue its activities and will continue it in coordination with other fronts.
He also said that forces opposed to the Taliban administration have suffered heavy losses and damage over these years. In part of his remarks, Registani quoted Ahmad Shah Massoud as saying that “resistance will continue.”
The announcement of the return of this senior commander of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan comes about a month after the martyrdom of Hasib Panjsheri, one of the front’s commanders, in clashes in northern Salang. The Hindu Kush is a vast mountain range in Afghanistan, parts of which in recent years have been referred to as an area of activity for groups opposed to the Taliban administration.
