Pakistani police detained Aleema Khan, the sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, outside her home in Lahore on September 27, in an incident that coincided with her departure for Islamabad to take part in a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rally.

A spokesperson for the Punjab branch of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said Aleema Khan was detained while on her way to the capital. According to the party, she had intended to attend a gathering that had been scheduled in advance.

Pakistani media reported that Aleema Khan had left home with her driver when police stopped their vehicle and then took her into custody.
