Kabul’s Dawat University shuts down in protest at Taliban interference

Dawat University, a private university in Kabul, has suspended all its academic, educational and administrative activities in response to the Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education’s appointment of a new leadership board.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 28, the university said the board appointed by the Taliban administration had been introduced without the approval of the university’s administration and founders, and was not legitimate in the eyes of the institution. According to the statement, the university’s activities will remain suspended from September 29, 1405, until its legal status is clarified.
The statement from Dawat University said the Taliban administration had seized control of the institution and appointed a new leadership board for it “without providing any justified religious, legal or administrative reason” and without the consent of the administration and founders. University officials have condemned the move.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Higher Education has so far said nothing about the reason for appointing a new leadership board for Dawat University or why this decision was made.
Previously, the Taliban had also halted the activities of the private Khatam al-Nabiyyin University. Dawat University is one of the private higher education institutions in Kabul.
