Germany Deports 13 Afghan Nationals Convicted of Various Crimes to Kabul

The German government has deported 13 Afghan nationals convicted of various crimes to Kabul. The German network n-tv reported that the group was flown to Afghanistan on Tuesday, Sept. 24, on a charter flight.

According to the report, citing Germany’s federal interior ministry, all of the individuals were men and had all previously been convicted in cases related to sexual offences, physical violence and drug trafficking.

The deportation of Afghan nationals from Germany began in 2024 and has increased since Berlin established formal contact with the Taliban administration. That contact led to the acceptance of two Taliban-appointed diplomats at the Afghan embassy in Berlin and the Afghan consulate in Bonn.

According to the report, 263 migrants have so far been deported to Afghanistan, the majority of them people convicted of sexual offences, murder, violence and drug-related crimes.

A refugee support organisation in Germany has also said that by the end of 2025, around 13,000 Afghan nationals who were supposed to leave Germany were in the country. According to the organisation, the residence status of nearly 10,000 of them was “Duldung”, or conditional and tolerated stay — a status that currently prevents deportation, but can open the way for it in the event of legal violations or if they leave Germany’s borders.
