Consumer Prices Rise 9.6% in Asad, Afghanistan Statistics Office Says

The National Statistics and Information Authority has said that consumer prices in Asad 1405 rose by 9.6% year on year, compared with the same month last year, based on year-on-year inflation.

According to the authority’s newsletter, the monthly inflation index also rose by 1.4% in Asad, mainly due to higher prices for food and non-food items.

In the food category, prices increased overall by 0.7%. The authority said the sharpest increases were recorded in meat prices, up 2.2%, dairy products up 2.6%, oils up 5.4%, and various vegetables up 2.6%.

The newsletter adds that prices of non-food items also rose by 1.9% in the same month. The clothing index increased by 3.5%, housing by 1.7%, household goods by 2%, and transport by 5%.

The National Statistics and Information Authority also said the average value of the Afghan currency against the US dollar in Asad was 65.75 afghanis, compared with 65.67 afghanis in Saratan, indicating a 0.1% decline in the value of the afghani on a monthly basis.

However, the authority said that if the afghani is measured against the same period last year, the currency has gained 4.2% against the US dollar. The National Statistics and Information Authority is responsible for publishing official statistics related to population, the economy and price indicators in Afghanistan.
