Afghan Post delegation travels to Thailand for Asia Postal Congress
The Taliban administration says a three-member delegation from the state-run Afghan Post company has travelled to Thailand to attend the 14th Congress of the Asian Postal Union and the general meeting of its chief executives.
The General Directorate of State-Owned Enterprises, part of the Taliban administration, said in a statement posted late on Saturday on its X page that the delegation, led by Mawlawi Rahmatullah Maki, chief executive of Afghan Post, had departed for Thailand.
According to the department, the congress and meeting are due to be held in Bangkok, the Thai capital. The statement said representatives from postal administrations of 32 member countries of the Asian Postal Union, as well as representatives from the Universal Postal Union (UPU), the World Customs Organization (WCO), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and a number of related bodies, will attend.
The Taliban administration said the meetings will discuss the expansion and standardisation of postal services, strengthening international postal cooperation, exchanging expertise and technical capacities among postal administrations, coordinating postal and customs affairs, and improving the quality of postal services.
It added that the Afghan Post delegation will share views and experience related to Afghanistan’s postal sector with participants and will also discuss expanding cooperation, strengthening international postal relations and exchanging professional experience with representatives of postal bodies.
The 14th Congress of the Asian Postal Union and the general meeting of its chief executives are scheduled to be held in Bangkok from August 31 to September 4, 2026. The Asian Postal Union is one of the regional bodies responsible for coordinating postal services among member countries.
