Taliban Says 334 Migrant Families Returned to Afghanistan in One Day
The Taliban administration said 334 migrant families, comprising 1,640 people, returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan in one day, a figure that, alongside the continuing return of migrants, also reports the transfer of hundreds of families to various provinces and the distribution of cash assistance.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Taliban administration, published yesterday’s report of the Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Problems on his X account. According to the report, 273 families, totaling 1,448 people, were transferred to different provinces, and cash assistance and other aid were provided to 285 families.
The commission said 225 families, comprising 1,220 people, entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing and were registered. In addition, 247 families, totaling 1,268 people, were transferred from this crossing to the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman and Kabul, and 1,092,930 afghanis were paid for their transport fares.
The report says 252 families received a total of 2,052,000 afghanis in cash assistance at Torkham, and health and telecommunications services were also provided at the Omari camp. On the other hand, 12 families, comprising 70 people, returned to the country through Spin Boldak in Kandahar province.
According to the published information, of the returnees through Spin Boldak, 11 families comprising 60 people were transferred to different provinces, and more than 48,000 afghanis were paid for their transport costs. Also, 116,000 afghanis in total was provided to 13 families at this crossing, and food, health and telecommunications services were also made available to them.
According to the report, 79 families, comprising 292 people, returned to Afghanistan via the Pul-e Abrisham crossing in Nimroz, and 1,049 passengers also entered the country through this route. In this section, two families received a total of 10,000 afghanis in cash assistance.
The Taliban administration also said 18 families, comprising 58 people, returned from the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat, and 112,000 afghanis in total was provided to 18 families. In addition, the Transfer and Transport Committee in Kabul transferred 15 families, comprising 120 people, to different provinces and paid 160,810 afghanis for their transport fares.
The report concludes that, alongside assistance to 285 families, 238 SIM cards from telecommunications networks were also distributed among the returnees. Torkham, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala and Pul-e Abrisham are among the main crossing points for the movement and return of Afghan migrants from Pakistan and Iran.
