Taliban Rejects Claim of Rising Insecurity in Northern Afghanistan

The Taliban administration has rejected a claim by the International Crisis Group about a fresh rise in insecurity in northern Afghanistan, saying the incident in question was a “small matter” that was resolved in less than 24 hours.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman, told Tolo News that the incident was quickly brought under control and, he said, was not a sign of any deterioration in the security situation in the north of the country.

He also repeated the claim that no individual or group would be allowed to use Afghan soil to threaten others.

The International Crisis Group is an international research organisation that publishes reports on conflicts and security conditions in different countries. Northern Afghanistan has, at various times, been considered one of the country’s more sensitive areas from a security standpoint.
