Israeli Media Reports Secret Israel-Turkey Talks on Syria

Israel’s Kan news network has claimed that Israel and Turkey are in talks through “secret” channels to prevent further escalation of tensions between the two sides, tensions that are specifically linked to recent developments in Syria.

The network reported on Sunday, citing an unnamed military source, that Tel Aviv does not want Turkey to become an enemy. However, according to the same source, Israel may take action if it considers the messages exchanged to be insufficient.

According to the report, tensions between the two sides rose after Israel struck a military air base in Syria. Israel had claimed that Turkey intended to use the site for activities that Tel Aviv viewed as potentially threatening.

Kan also claimed that Israel has set “red lines” regarding Turkey’s presence in Syria. According to the claim, these restrictions are focused in particular on drones, missiles and air defence systems.

In recent years, Israel has repeatedly targeted sites inside Syria, while the role and influence of regional actors in the country, including Turkey, has become one of the sensitive points of tension in northern and southern Syria.
