Afghan National Arrested in Termez With 506 Grams of Opium

Uzbek media have reported that an Afghan national has been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and sales at the International Trade Center in the city of Termez.

The Palmpir media outlet wrote on Saturday, 31 Asad, that the man was detained by security forces while selling opium to an undercover buyer in exchange for $2,500.

According to the report, the detained individual was born in 2003 and was carrying 506 grams of opium at the time of his arrest.

The report said the narcotics had been smuggled into Uzbekistan from Afghanistan and that the suspect used one of his internal organs to transport them.

Termez is one of Uzbekistan’s border cities with Afghanistan, and routes leading to Central Asia have in recent years been among the crossings of concern in connection with drug trafficking from Afghanistan.
