Afghan Activists in Canada Call for Cutting Ties with the Taliban

A number of Afghan civil and political activists living in Canada, at a gathering in Burnaby, called for an end to all interaction with the Taliban administration and urged countries, institutions and individuals to stop financial assistance and money transfers to the group.

The gathering was held on Saturday, 24 Asad, in British Columbia, Canada. In a resolution, participants called on the international community to create the conditions for the transfer of power and authority from the Taliban administration to the people of Afghanistan.

The activists also called on the people of Afghanistan to show their opposition to what they described as “Taliban despotism” by any possible means.

Several speakers at the gathering also stressed the ban on lobbying in favour of the Taliban administration in different countries, describing the group’s rule as a historic obstacle to education, especially women’s education.

Burnaby is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and in recent years has hosted part of the Afghan immigrant community. Since the Taliban returned to power, Afghan protest gatherings in different countries have repeatedly focused on women’s rights, education and the political isolation of the administration.
