Spanish Expert Blames US and Israel for Ceuta Migrant Crisis
Spanish expert Enrique Arias Chil claims that the surge of migrants entering the city of Ceuta is the result of actions taken by the United States and Israel, suggesting the crisis was politically motivated. According to the Russian news agency TASS, Arias Chil stated that these developments followed Madrid’s support for Palestine and its refusal to allow American forces to use Spanish territory. He alleges that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised ‘revenge’ against Spain in response to these decisions.
The Spanish expert also noted that signs of escalating tensions in Ceuta had been visible for some time, but Spanish authorities, due to their relations with Morocco, were reluctant to take immediate action. He added that reports detailing the extent of the crisis reached the authorities belatedly and believes the situation was premeditated.
Late last month, the city of Ceuta, a Spanish enclave located in North Africa bordering Morocco, experienced a large influx of migrants. Spain’s Ministry of the Interior announced that approximately 72,000 people had entered the city since then, most of whom have been returned to Morocco. Ceuta is one of two Spanish enclaves in North Africa and has long been a major entry point for migrants seeking to reach Europe.
