Ancient 2,000-Year-Old Coin Deposited in Baghlan Local Museum
A nearly two-thousand-year-old ancient coin has been entrusted to the local museum of the Baghlan Department of Information and Culture after being transferred between relevant authorities.
The Baghlan Department of Information and Culture, under the Taliban administration, announced that the coin was discovered by a young boy while herding livestock in the village of Islam Darrah in the Burka district. According to the department, after the coin was handed over to security agencies and subsequently to the Appeals Court, it was officially transferred to the local museum for safekeeping based on an official court document.
Maulvi Asadullah Mustafa Hashimi, head of Baghlan’s Department of Information and Culture, said preliminary examinations indicate that the coin belongs to the Greco-Bactrian period, dating back about two thousand years. However, further research is necessary to determine its exact age and characteristics.
He urged residents to report any historical artifacts they find to the Department of Information and Culture. Protecting cultural heritage is a fundamental responsibility of government institutions, and Baghlan is a province where numerous historical artifacts from different periods have been discovered.
