Over 300,000 Tons of Goods Imported via Herat-Khaf Railway in Early 2024

The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment has announced that in the first three months of this year, more than 300,000 tons of commercial goods have been imported into Afghanistan through the Herat-Khaf railway line. According to officials, this route has also reduced transportation costs.

Officials from the chamber say that with the activation of this railway route, a large number of traders have prioritized transporting their commercial goods via rail, as it is more cost-effective compared to land routes.

In addition to imports, some goods are also exported through the same route. According to the Herat Chamber of Commerce, gypsum, mineral stones, and several industrial products are exported abroad via this railway.

The Herat-Khaf railway connects Afghanistan, through Herat province, to Iran’s railway network, facilitating access to regional and international markets. Currently, commercial goods from several countries are imported into Herat via this route.
