Four Pakistani Officials Arrested for Issuing Fake ID Documents to Afghan Citizens
Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has announced the arrest of four individuals, including two senior officials from the country’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), on charges of issuing fraudulent identity documents to Afghan citizens in Karachi. According to the agency’s spokesperson, those detained include Inam-ul-Haq, Deputy Director of NADRA, Fayyaz Ahmed, another deputy director, a security guard, and a man named Muhammad Umar Shah who acted as a middleman. The FIA added that documents and related evidence were seized during the operation, and more arrests are anticipated in connection to the case. The accused are alleged to have manipulated official records to produce counterfeit documents for Afghan nationals and were also involved in other illegal activities. Preliminary investigations indicate that this network may have ties to armed groups, and inquiries are ongoing to clarify all aspects of the case. This incident occurs amid a situation where many Afghan citizens, especially following the Taliban’s return to power, are living in Pakistan without legal residency documents, as the Pakistani government has halted the process of renewing their stay permits. In the past two years, particularly this year, Pakistan has expelled tens of thousands of Afghan nationals from its territory.
