UNDP Expands Development Programs to Support Businesses in Badakhshan

Support programs in Badakhshan province have been expanded with the backing of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to tackle economic, climatic, and livelihood challenges. These initiatives focus on strengthening small and medium-sized businesses, supporting women-led enterprises, and establishing local savings groups.
According to released information, part of this support is dedicated to developing irrigation systems, producing vegetables in greenhouses, and processing dairy products. The aim of these measures is to increase family incomes and reduce the vulnerability of residents in various areas of Badakhshan to climate change and economic downturns.
Badakhshan is one of the mountainous provinces in the northeast of the country, where many inhabitants rely on agriculture and livestock. In recent years, declining job opportunities and economic difficulties have placed significant pressure on the livelihoods of the people in this province.
Development experts believe that investing in local small enterprises and empowering women can play a crucial role in economic stability for families and in reducing reliance on emergency aid; however, the continuity of these programs requires sustained support and improved market access.
