EU Supports UN Economic and Service Projects in Badakhshan to Boost Local Resilience

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that, with financial support from the European Union, it is implementing a series of economic and essential service projects in Badakhshan province. These initiatives aim to strengthen the local economy and enhance the resilience of residents against crises.
On Saturday, July 4, the agency reported that a delegation from the European Union visited Badakhshan to observe ongoing projects in the districts of Faizabad, Baharak, and Arghanjkhwah. The visit was conducted to review the progress of the programs and assess their impact on local communities.
According to released information, these projects encompass various sectors including supporting small businesses and vulnerable households’ livelihoods, improving food security, advancing agriculture, and expanding irrigation systems. Enhancing healthcare services in certain areas is also part of the programs.
The United Nations added that some of these efforts focus on empowering women and youth. Technical training and skills development have been designed for these groups to create employment opportunities and sustainable income, especially in the remote regions of Badakhshan.
The agency emphasized that the projects are implemented in collaboration with local partners and that the ultimate goal is to reduce the vulnerability of communities to economic crises, climate change, and shortages of essential services.
