UNDP and EU Delegation Visits Support Projects in Badakhshan Province

A joint delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the European Union traveled to Badakhshan province to closely examine the implementation of support projects in the region. The purpose of this visit was to assess the impact of programs carried out with the backing of the European Union aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of local residents.

According to published information, these programs focus on improving food security, expanding access to financial services, and creating income opportunities. Women, youth, farmers, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are among the groups benefiting from these initiatives.

Officials involved in the mission stated that enhancing economic capacities in remote areas, especially in mountainous provinces like Badakhshan, can contribute to the economic sustainability of families and reduce their dependency on emergency aid.

Badakhshan, located in northeastern Afghanistan, is home to a large population engaged primarily in agriculture and livestock farming. Limited access to markets and financial resources remains a significant economic challenge in the province. Support programs from international organizations in such areas are considered part of efforts to bolster the local economy and reduce poverty.
