Taliban Representative Attends Anti-Drug Event in Tehran

Mawlawi Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, the head of the Taliban-run Afghan Embassy in Tehran, attended the ceremony marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse in Iran’s capital. The event was attended by senior Iranian officials, representatives of international organizations, and several ambassadors.
According to a statement from the Afghan Embassy in Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, was also present at the ceremony. Additionally, representatives from international bodies active in the fight against drugs joined diplomats residing in Tehran.
During the event, the necessity to strengthen regional and international cooperation to combat drug trafficking was emphasized. Speakers focused on increasing coordination among countries to reduce production, trafficking, and the social consequences of narcotics.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse is held annually to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs and to foster cooperation among countries to control this issue—a challenge that Afghanistan has faced for decades.
