Taliban Interior Minister Haqqani Meets Qatari Ambassador to Discuss Security Cooperation

Sirajuddin Haqqani, acting Interior Minister of the Taliban administration, met with Mirdaf Alqashoti, Qatar’s ambassador to Kabul, to discuss the expansion of bilateral relations, regional developments, and security cooperation. The meeting took place on Wednesday, June 30.
Bakhtar News Agency, operating under the Taliban administration, reported that the two sides exchanged views on developing relations between the Taliban administration and Qatar, as well as how the group interacts with the international community. The issue of the Taliban’s position in regional and international relations is raised at a time when this administration has not yet been recognized by any country.
According to the report, Haqqani described Qatar’s role in facilitating bilateral relations and cooperation as “constructive” and expressed appreciation for the country’s efforts. In recent years, Qatar has been recognized as one of the main mediators in political interactions related to Afghanistan.
The meeting also covered security cooperation and drug trafficking issues, with both parties emphasizing the continuation of collaboration in these areas. This comes amidst ongoing security challenges and serious concerns from citizens and neighboring countries about drug trafficking, with the Taliban administration repeatedly facing questions and criticisms regarding these matters.
