Jan Egeland Condemns Attacks on Civilians Amid Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions

Jan Egeland, head of the Norwegian Refugee Council, condemned recent Pakistani attacks on parts of Afghanistan, emphasizing that civilians and civilian facilities must not be targeted.

In a message posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page, he urged the military forces of both Afghanistan and Pakistan to adhere to international humanitarian laws and resolve their disputes through dialogue. According to him, protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure is a fundamental principle of international law, and violations could lead to serious humanitarian consequences.

Military tensions between the two countries continue while border area residents bear the brunt of the suffering. Aid organizations have repeatedly warned that armed conflicts in these regions disrupt people’s access to basic services.

In this context, the Taliban administration is expected to act responsibly in protecting the lives and property of civilians and to prevent any actions that exacerbate insecurity and harm civilian populations.
