Guterres: Local Actions Are Key to Tackling Climate Change

Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has stated that the fight against climate change will only succeed when practical actions are taken at the community level, rather than merely discussing the issue in negotiation rooms.
On Saturday, June 27, Guterres wrote on his official X (formerly Twitter) page that formal talks alone are not enough to curb the climate crisis, and tangible local actions play a decisive role.
According to him, local leaders have the responsibility to manage the transition to clean energy in a way that is swift, fair, and simultaneously enhances security, resilience, and public well-being.
The UN Secretary-General also emphasized that he fully supports practical, community-based steps to reduce the impacts of climate change and considers these efforts a fundamental part of the global fight against this crisis.
